The biggest event in the fashion industry, the Met Gala, will return on May 6th next year. The theme is “Sleeping Beauty: Reawakening Fashion” to celebrate the opening of the Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute’s spring exhibition in 2024. The CEO of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Max Hollein, said: “This innovative exhibition will break the boundaries of our imagination, inviting us to experience multiple aspects of a work, learn more about its history, and ultimately appreciate its creations more deeply.”
The exhibition will showcase 50 historical costumes that cannot be worn again, including Charles Frederick Worth’s silk ball gown from 1877. “Fashion is one of the most sensual art forms because it is closely related to the body,” said Wendy Yu, the head of the Costume Institute, and curator Andrew Bolton added. “It is filled with memories and emotions, and we have many connections with it through our senses. I hope this show can inspire people’s sensory appreciation of fashion.” The exhibition itself is scheduled to open to the public the day after the Met Gala and will continue until September 2, 2024.
